Documents
Upload, track, review, and manage policy documents in Covara.
Documents are the source files behind every report, AI answer, and comparison in Covara. The document library lives at /{your_org_name}/documents.
Library Actions
Use the library table to search by title, type, status, or issuer. Filters help you narrow the list when your team has many policies.
Click Upload Document to send one PDF, or use the bulk upload flow when adding several policies of the same type.
Open a document to review file details, processing status, and the PDF viewer. Processing or queued documents are not ready for Policy Genius yet.
The row action menu lets you view the document, open Policy Genius, start a comparison, chat with the document, or delete it.
Upload A Policy
Open Documents
Go to /{your_org_name}/documents and click Upload Document.
Select the policy type
Choose the closest supported policy type. The policy type controls the extraction prompt, schema, report renderer, and entitlement checks.
Add the PDF
Drag a PDF into the upload area or choose it from your device. Use a clear file name if possible.
Confirm and wait
Confirm the upload. The document enters the processing queue and becomes Active when extraction succeeds.
Pick the policy type carefully
If the wrong type is selected, Covara can extract the wrong fields or block downstream features. Cancel and correct the type before uploading when you notice a mismatch.
Document Status
| Status | What to do |
|---|---|
| Queued | Covara has accepted the document and is waiting to process it. |
| Processing | Extraction is running. Refresh later or watch the Jobs page. |
| Active | The document is ready for Policy Genius, AI Assistant, and comparison. |
| Error | Re-upload the file or contact support if the document should process. |
Detail Page
Open /{your_org_name}/documents/[id] when you need to inspect a single document. From the detail page you can go back to the library or click Chat with Document to ask questions about that policy in the AI Assistant.
Bulk Work
Use bulk upload for several PDFs that share the same policy type. Use bulk delete only when you are sure the selected documents are no longer needed, because deletion removes the source document from the team library.
Use active documents for downstream work
Policy Genius, AI Assistant answers, and Policy Comparison are most useful after processing has finished and the document status is Active.
